Novel Mage Feature

Custom Languages

Invent your own words and have them apply consistently across the whole manuscript, automatically.

Custom Languages lets you define your own vocabulary the conlang terms, honorifics, or invented words that make a fantasy or sci-fi world feel real and have Novel Mage apply the conversion consistently across your manuscript. Define "aurelin" for silver once, and every relevant instance follows the rule you set, instead of you trying to remember on page 340 which word you used on page 12.

This solves a specific and common problem in genre fiction: worldbuilders invent rich vocabulary early, then drift back to plain English mid-draft because there's no way to enforce consistency short of a personal glossary and constant cross-checking. Custom Languages is that glossary, applied automatically.

It pairs with the Novel Dictionary, which teaches Novel Mage's spellcheck your invented names and terms so they stop getting flagged as typos which matters once your character list includes names spellcheck has never seen.

Key benefits

  • Define your own word mappings once, applied consistently across the manuscript
  • No more losing track of which invented term you used in which chapter
  • Pairs with the Novel Dictionary so spellcheck stops flagging your own invented names
  • Works for full conlangs or just a handful of invented terms your choice of scope
  • Keeps a fantasy or sci-fi world's vocabulary consistent without a manual glossary

How it works

Open Custom Languages from the writing toolbar. Add word mappings real word to your invented term, or build out a fuller vocabulary list. Apply the conversion to a chapter or the full manuscript. Add invented names to the Novel Dictionary from the same panel so spellcheck recognizes them going forward.
